20" Superb German Art Character Doll
Attributed To Marion Kaulitz 6000/9000
|
|
20" (51 cm.) Sculpted composition socket
head portraying an androgynous person with very solemn expression, elongated
facial shape with strong forehead and nose, full lower face, deeply set eye
sockets with painted brown eyes, incised eyeliner, feathered brows, closed
mouth with full lips in pouty expression, well-sculpted ears, brunette
mohair wig, composition and wooden ball-jointed body, antique marketing
costume comprising blue woolen jacket and red woolen skirt with embroidered
design, undergarment, black stockings, leather shoes, straw hat. Condition:
generally excellent, few typical rubs. Comments: attributed to the Munich
Art Dolls studio of Marion Kaulitz whose art reform designs created a public
stir when first exhibited at the Hermann Tietz department store in Munich in
1908. Value Points: very rare model from this studio whose dolls were
individually sculpted and painted, many on commission from European royal
families; the original finish is well preserved and the highly characterized
features are extraordinary.
